This weekend Connal had a couple of tastings in Switzerland before hopping over to join Antonia in Budapest at the Whisky show there. Graeme had tastings in Denmark AND Norway while Jenny & Alex casually stayed at home and accepted the OSWA award for Best New Distillery on Saturday (visit Aqvavitae on youtube for the ceremony).

We hope you are seated comfortably, for we have saved a truly majestic whisky for the last of our new list.

It gives us great pleasure to reveal a single cask of Mortlach 1986, reaching a cool 36 years of age.

This really is a cut above, with notes of green bananas, Grand Marnier, Terry's Chocolate Orange, Lorne Sausage, butteries, Crunchie bars. The journey of discovery continues with aged Meursault, candle wax, old furniture polish, cigar leaf, and coal smoke.

After some time we clamber upon sourdough toast with honey, golden Syrup, Demerara sugar, dulche de leche, marmalade, and a tannic reminiscence of copper pennies.

Sensationally balanced, our Managing Director Alex has rated this as one of the top drams he has ever had the pleasure of tasting.

Serious stuff, then.

44 years of chilling out in a single refill Bourbon Hogshead have left us with a perfectly balanced mix of coconut tanning oil, sherbet, choc-ice, fresh fruit salad, linseed oil, clotted cream and even flat leaf parsley.
